ANSI Safety Colors
Z535.1 establishes the technical definitions, standards, and tolerances for safety colors that encourage sign, label and tag uniformity. This standard is used by all sections of ANSI Z535, as well as the following standards:
- ANSI A13.1 Pipe marking standard
- ANSI C95.2 Radio frequency radiation hazard warning system
- DOT Hazardous materials warning labels and placards
- National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA,DOT) Ambulance Orange and Ambulance Blue
Safety Red Safety Red is used as a background color for DANGER hazard notifications and FIRE EQUIPMENT informational notices.When using the DANGER and FIRE EQUIPMENT headers, the text and symbols printed should be white to better contrast with the red background. Safety Red corresponds to the Pantone Matching System (PMS) color 485C. |

Safety Orange Safety Orange is used as a background color for WARNING hazard notifications.When using the WARNING header, the text printed should be black to better contrast with the orange background. Safety Orange color corresponds to the Pantone Matching System (PMS) color 152 C. |

Safety Yellow Safety Yellow is used as a background color for CAUTION hazard notifications.When using the CAUTION header, the text printed should be black to better contrast with the yellow background. Safety Yellow corresponds to the Pantone Matching System (PMS) color 109 C |

Safety Blue Safety Blue is used as a background color for NOTICE instructions. When using the NOTICE header, the text printed should be italicized and white to better contrast with the blue background. Safety Blue corresponds to the Pantone Matching System (PMS) color 2945 C. |

Safety Green Safety Green is used as a background color for Safety Instruction notices. When using the Safety Instruction header, the text printed should be white to better contrast with the green background. Safety Green corresponds to the Pantone Matching System (PMS) color 3415 C.

Safety Black & White Symbols Safety Black is used for symbols appearing on a Safety White background. |

Safety Black & White Panel Text Safety Black and White also compose the "message" panel text. Text can either be Safety Black on a Safety White background (standard) or Safety White on a Safety Black background to show contrast and draw attention to the hazard message. Safety Black and White correspond to the Pantone Matching System (PMS) colors Process Black and White. |
